Shibayama Insect Ring - sz 6.5

$235.00

A tiny piece of natural history, made to be worn.

This unusual statement ring features two iridescent insects delicately inlaid into a creamy, bone surface. Their shimmering bodies catch the light while their finely engraved legs create the illusion of tiny creatures resting on the surface.

The design is inspired by Shibayama, a traditional Japanese decorative art dating back to the late 18th century. Known for its intricate use of natural materials such as mother-of-pearl, abalone, bone, and shell, Shibayama artists created elaborate scenes inspired by nature, often featuring insects, birds, and flowers.

This contemporary interpretation pays homage to that tradition, with raised insect details and a bold, sculptural silver setting held by four substantial prongs.

Part jewelry, part miniature specimen. A curious little treasure for anyone who appreciates the strange and beautiful.

Style: Contemporary Shibayama-inspired inlay

Materials: Silver-toned metal with iridescent insect inlay on bone.

A collection of strange and beautiful pieces I’ve discovered along the way. As an artist, I’ve always been drawn to the work of other makers. The unusual, the imperfect, the things that feel like they have a story to tell.

Artist Findings is a small collection of pieces I’ve personally collected, admired, or discovered over the years. Some are vintage, some are by artists I know personally, and others are by makers whose names have been lost along the way.

Each piece was chosen because it’s something I would want in my own collection. And I thought you might appreciate them too.
